Zug-based photographer Pit Bühler specializes in expressive and detailed portraits. He has already put people in the right light in front of his camera all over the world, including acting greats such as Christoph Waltz and Uma Thurman. But no matter who stands in front of Bühler's lens: faces with a strong character are particularly important to him, regardless of whether they radiate strength, dynamism or vulnerability. At the prestigious Leningrad Center in St. Petersburg, he presented a major solo exhibition of portraits of dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet. Pit Bühler also has a more recent project that he is pursuing with great passion. The portraits of circus artists, clowns and animal trainers. For Bühler, the clown with his mask and elaborate costumes best embodies the circus, as he also evokes childhood memories. Animal trainers together with their protégés, on the other hand, are an exciting subject because they show the love and interdependence of humans and animals. Bühler started with portraits in the circus at the Monte-Carlo Circus Festival. But he was also allowed to take photos of the circus stars at the Conelli, Knie and Krone circuses. Bühler often sets up his small photo corner directly in the backstage area of the circus to capture the emotions of the artists as they come straight out of the ring. The photos do not take long for the artist, but Pit Bühler's high quality standards must be met. Bühler met with particular kindness and goodwill for his work in Russia, where Anastasia Makeeva opened the doors to the circuses for him. Pit Bühler would like to continue portraying circus protagonists for even longer. Although he has been able to photograph circus stars such as the clown Fumagalli, artists such as Alena Ershova or the Pellegrini Brothers and animal trainers such as Rene Caselly or Alessio Fochesato, there are still many subjects that Pit Bühler would like to capture. Because for him: „Circus has a very high human value and is undervalued in my opinion.“
